Our District, District 14-C, is comprised of Lions and Leo Clubs located throughout the counties of Adams, Cumberland and York within the state of Pennsylvania who make a difference every day in the lives of those who live within our communities by serving or supporting local food banks, fundraising for bigger causes, and living by our motto of We Serve. The clubs of District 14-C are very involved and support larger needs internationally through Lions Clubs International Foundation by holding numerous fundraisers within our communities and donating the monies earned for catastrophic disaster and pandemic relief or support one or more of our general causes such as: Furthermore, District 14-C along with all the clubs of Pennsylvania also come together to support the needs within Pennsylvania by supporting our Pennsylvania Lions Beacon Lodge Camp, Pennsylvania Lions Care for Kids, Lions of Pennsylvania Foundation, Pennsylvania Lions Hearing Research Foundation, PA Lions Sight Conservation & Eye Research Foundation, and many more organization and foundations. Distict 14-C Governor's Message |
Dear Lions, Lioness/Lions and Leos Firstly, thank you for all you do. I am humbled and honored by this opportunity to serve as District Governor of 14-C. This would not be possible if it was not for the support from my home club, the Stewartstown Lions. A key factor to my success is the support from my wife, Susan, who was my partner in service years before I became a Lion. In 1979 I met Susan when we both were child welfare social workers in Baltimore City, which was the beginning of our service to others. In my journey as a Lion, I have had the good fortunate to meet the incredible Lions of District 14-C who have provided training and guidance in each step I have taken. The experiences and interactions took me beyond the district, to other parts of Pennsylvania, the United States, Canada and Internationally. It is amazing when you stop and realize we are all volunteers and our efforts truly reflect the quote of Melvin Jones, “You can't get very far until you start doing something for somebody else.” There is a human connection when “we serve,” but the impact may be far greater than we realize. Fred Rogers points out, “We live in a world in which we need to share responsibility. It's easy to say, 'It's not my child, not my community, not my world, not my problem.' Then there are those who see the need and respond. I consider those people my heroes." Where there is a need there is a Lion. You may not think of yourself as a hero, but my theme this year is, “You Can make a Difference.” This points out there are opportunities every day to help others - the choice is yours. Again, Fred Rogers shares, "All of us, at some time or another, need help. Whether we're giving or receiving help, each one of us has something valuable to bring to this world. That's one of the things that connects us as neighbors - in our own way, each one of us is a giver and a receiver." I ask each of you to be yourself and use your talents to serve. Remember to be careful with your criticism and liberal with your praise, to build up and not destroy. “No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted” – Aesop Thank you again for all to do. Years ago, when I served as president of Stewartstown Lions, I shared an opening letter to each member, pointing out that as president this was not my club but theirs (yes I was a member but what we did was still up to them). As District Governor, District 14-C still remains your district and not personally my own. During my undergraduate studies at Virginia Tech, I was a member of the Corps of Cadets, whose motto was “Ut Prosim,” which is Latin for “That I May Serve.” My hope is to be a servant leader with an overall goal to have each club ROAR (Recruiting new members, providing Orientation, Active in service and Retaining members). With your help and support , I hope to continue the long history of excellent service in District 14-C. In addition, let us have some fun along the way. If I may be of assistance please ask. Yours in Lionism and Service from the Heart, |
